The most important changes:
- There is no longer a final exam for the district school.
- Acceptance is based entirely on school marks.
- Those who do not have the necessary marks can take an entrance exam. However, this exam cannot be taken until at least 1 year after primary school. The exception is BMS. For BMS, you can take the entrance exam during your last year of primary school, regardless of school marks.
- Performance in the following subjects is considered for exam-free entrance: Mathematics, German, French, English, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Art/Music/PE. The core subjects German and Mathematics count double, and a mark of at least 4.0 is necessary in both. In the subject group Art/Music/PE, the two subjects with the highest marks each count once.

Those who achieve the required grade point average on the interim report are provisionally admitted (with a probationary period of one year) to the appropriate secondary school. An average of 5.3 on the final report results in definite acceptance, regardless of the marks on the intermediate report.
